Luftbrücke Berlin

In 1948/49, the capital Berlin was supplied with survival essentials from the historically unique relief operation "Operation Vittles", including from airports in Hamburg and Wiesbaden. Daredevil American and British pilots worked hand in hand with German logistics - and this only three years after the war had begun. They flew their Douglas DC 3 as "sultana bombers" into the enclosed city, creating legendary images by dropping "Hershey" chocolate for Berlin children on small parachutes. In honour of this aeronautical and logistical achievement, which will be celebrated for the 70th time in 2018, the Uhrenwerk Weimar launched the "Berlin Airlift" model, which is based on the pilot watches of those years. A DC 3 on the approach to Berlin-Tempelhof and the names of the airports of Hamburg, Wiesbaden and Faßberg are engraved on the case lid. The airlift museum located in Faßberg receives a part of the income from this model as a donation.
